The Vanguard's tonneau case has always been one of Franck Muller's most recognizable shapes, somewhere between a cushion and a rectangle, with curved lugs that wrap the wrist rather than sit flat against it. At 44 x 53.7mm, it wears large, but the titanium base keeps it light.
What changes everything here is the PVD finish. Case, crown, and deployant clasp are all treated in the same black coating, so there is no contrast point for the eye to land on. No polished bezel edge, no steel crown against a black dial. Just one continuous, matte-finished object.
A Dial That Rewards a Second Look
The dial is where the all-black configuration really shows its hand. Numerals, the chapter ring, and the hands are all rendered in tones close enough to the dial itself that the watch can look almost blank from a distance. Tilt it under direct light, though, and the layering becomes obvious. The Arabic numerals sit raised against the dial surface, the chapter ring takes on a subtle texture, and the whole face develops a depth that flat product photography tends to flatten out.
